Portland Mental Wellness

came to us with the desire to build something more than the standard therapist practice — change the way people feel about going to therapy through relatable professionalism & warm hospitality.

Instead of walls painted in muted tones, furniture that is 100% function over form, and diplomas and licenses on the wall, they wanted to create a visual identity and client experience that felt modern, warm, and welcoming.

Our Solution

We created a visual identity with equal parts sophistication and vibrance that effectively translates to printed materials, the environment and the client experience.

Logo

We created a simple line drawing of a couch for the primary logo — a midcentury modern style for its clean lines and hip, approachable nature in two-toned grey with bright orange accents.

We paired a clean, modern font with an arc of vibrant green to give a nod to optimism and new beginnings as a result of the work clients would be doing with Portland Mental Wellness.

Space

We grounded the space with a perfect vintage mid-century modern couch newly covered in a bright orange slightly textured fabric. We added comfort to the seating with custom-made dark Italian wool throw pillows, providing a softness & texture.

We painted the walls with a warm grey, allowing the furniture and art to bring a pop of life into the space. Original abstract art from a local artist adds a sense of sophistication and warmth.

A large chalkboard wall was installed to create rotating hand-lettered content for use on their social media accounts and for prompts during client sessions.

Mid-century modern molded plastic chairs are seated around an eight-person dining table placed in the back of the space to accommodate group therapy sessions.

Customer experience design

Customers like easy, convenient, online appointment booking. Though not a new idea in many industries, it remains a fairly uncommon practice within the mental health therapy world.

We created a customer intake process that provides clients the ability to schedule themselves at any time without human interaction, eliminating a client identified barrier to seeking help.

By taking into account platforms, privacy regulations, and customer needs, this new automated process embraces the goal of the brand — relatable professionalism & warm hospitality.

Clients routinely comment on how consistent Portland Mental Wellness feels — from first website visit to office visit.
